Who is Gareth?
I have been a full-time writer for almost twenty years now, and in that time, I’ve had eighteen books published. They’ve been nominated for many awards, adapted for TV, and translated into eleven languages. I’ve even had a guide to creative writing published by Gollancz.
I started writing as a teenager, and was lucky to count Diana Wynne Jones and Helen Dunmore as early mentors.
I’ve twice won the coveted British Science Fiction Association Award for Best Novel, and have become one of the most-shortlisted authors in the award’s 50-year history. I’ve also been a finalist for the Locus, British Fantasy, Seiun, and Canopus awards.
My Embers of War trilogy is currently being adapted for television, and I have co-written groundbreaking stories with bestselling authors Aliette de Bodard and Peter F. Hamilton.
My short fiction has appeared in Clarkesworld and Interzone, and been featured in numerous anthologies, including The Year’s Best Science Fiction: Thirty-Second Annual Collection edited by Gardner Dozois. A comprehensive selection of my best stories will be published by Titan Books in the collection Who Will You Save? (coming summer 2025).
I have written nonfiction for The Guardian, The Irish Times, SFX, and Acoustic Magazine, and I currently write a monthly column for The Engineer.
I am a popular guest at conventions and literary festivals and my work has been translated into German, Spanish, Catalan, Russian, Polish, Hebrew, Greek, French, Italian, Japanese, and Croatian.
The two things I love most about being online are:
Giving back by helping other authors
Bringing my readers along on my journey
